The voice is the balance of three components or organs:
Motor organ (breathing)
Foundry organ (laryngeal muscles)
Resonator organ (cavities to accommodate the vibration frequencies of the vocal cords).
This balance in case it is not correct will, in any case, be due to one of these two phonatory attitudes:
Hypokinetic phonation due to incorrect posture, muscle weakness, organic causes, poor use of the support mechanism and insufficient sound projection in the resonator.
Frequent hyperkinetic phonation in case the singer pushes the full register in the treble beyond its limit, failing to adjust the muscle and resonator tonal ascent, straining and overloading the larynx.
Both attitudes, if not corrected, lead to vocal cord pathologies with the need to rest or surgery.
How voice and voice hygiene works
The voice is the working tool of the singer and must be preserved and kept efficient. The voice should not be strained and should be kept at rest in case of alterations in its sound, which in case they frequently also require a phoniatric examination.
Voice hygiene standards
Things to avoid:
Avoid excess alcohol
Limit the use of the voice in case you are taking the following medications: Aspirin (may cause bleeding) antihistamine and corticosteroids (dry mucous membranes) Mucolytics (hypersecretion of mucus) and sedatives (limit muscle control).
Learn how to warm your voice before singing and cool it afterwards
Study the vocal technique with a teacher to avoid damaging the voice.
Conclusions
The voice tool must, therefore, be preserved through the correct habits and preserved from the incorrect ones listed above.
